Andrew Telford is an assistant professor of European Studies with a focus on climate change and conflict at the University of Amsterdam.

His research focuses on environmental politics, particularly the relationships between climate change, security, and migration.

Previous research collaborations include co-organisation of the Climate Change and Human Society: Impact, Perceptions and Resilience in the Past and Present (Durham University, 2015), and co-organisation of the Addressing inequality for the improvement of global food security panel at the European Development Days conference (2019).

More specifically, his research has explored the politics of climate security in EU and US contexts, with a particular focus on the construction of climate-induced migration as a security risk, climate security and national identity, and the politics of drawing causal connections between climate change, radicalisation and terrorism. Building on these themes from his PhD research, Andrew’s work has been published in Political Geography and Geoforum.
